Installation Note: Choosing the Right Plenum Box Type

When specifying and installing Ventmann Plenum Boxes, the orientation of the HVAC ductwork connection (where the air comes from) dictates the optimal box type for best acoustic and thermal performance.

Key Installation Observation:

For "From Above" (Top Entry) Installations: Please select the Acoustic Plenum Box (GTG Series). This type is designed to primarily address and mitigate sound transmission from the ducting system into the occupied space, which is typically the priority for vertical (top) connections.
For Lateral (Side Entry) Installations: Please select the "V" Shape Insulated Thermo Box (VTBOX Series). This type is insulated and features the specific "V" shaped air path required for optimal thermal regulation and air delivery when connecting from the side.

Our plenum boxes are specifically designed for use with our linear slot diffusers. Their primary function is to equalize the pressure profile within the box, ensuring consistent airflow and even velocity across the full face of the grille diffuser.

Each plenum—also referred to as an “acoustic box”—is equipped with a high-quality foam insert to significantly reduce noise levels caused by airflow. This makes them an excellent choice for projects where acoustic comfort is as important as performance, such as offices, residential developments, hospitality spaces, and educational environments.

For ease of installation, the boxes are supplied with three pre-scored “knock-outs” (75mm, 125mm, and 160mm). This flexible design allows installers to adapt the connection size on-site by fixing spigots (supplied separately) securely to the exterior of the plenum using tech screws.

Step 1

Line Diffuser Installation Instructions

Pre-position the ventilation duct in the ceiling
void, above, through, or alongside the ceiling
joists. If required, purchase reducer(s) to suit
the size of duct and spigots (by others).

Step 2

Fit temporary batons with plasterboard
spacers that are the same thickness as the
final ceiling plasterboard sheet. Where metal
plasterboard rails are employed, suitable self
tapping screws will be required.

Step 3

Fit pre-assembled* diffuser, plenum box and
spigot(s) on top of temporary batons. Note
that spigot (by others) is surface mounted on
plenum using self-tapping screws and
silicone.

Step 4

Fix plenum to upper surface using proprietary
fixings (Unistrut etc) (by others). Fix to
plenum with self-tapping screws. Adjust
height of the plenum so that the face of the
diffuser just touches the top of the batons.

Step 5

Remove temporary batons and plasterboard
spacers. Measure and cut the hole in the
main plasterboard sheet. Lift the
plasterboard sheet to meet the diffuser and
fix in place as normal using plasterboard
screws.

Step 6

From the underside, use a jointing compound
to fill the gap between diffuser and
plasterboard. If required, move magnetic
blocks to desired length and fix in place using
jointing compound. Sand and paint.
